Today going to give you guys a ranking from 1 to 5. These are my top five favorites to win the Fifa World Cup in 2026.
Argentina
After what we saw against not only Brazil but also against Uruguay, this team has a lot of character. They can fight. They can win games in possession. They’re a very good team all around.
I don’t remember Argentina ever in my lifetime being this consistent over so many years, having that character, and not only that, the hunger. They won two trophies and the World Cup, and they go out there and give absolutely everything.
Spain
Spain is my 2nd Favourite because of what they did at the Euros, because of the dynamism that they have in their wingers, especially Lamine. He’s so mature beyond his age, and the way that they’re playing under Luis de la Fuente is sensational.
There are fallacies, just like with any of these teams. I think one through five, there are moments throughout the last couple of years that you say, “All right, they’re beatable here, here, and here.” But Spain has shown especially that they can even renew a couple of names, Laporte out, Hoyen in.
France
I don’t think you can ever write them off just because of the quality all around. And even though they had to go to penalty kicks in this Nations League, they’re a team that can fight. France has reached two World Cup finals back to back. It’s a process under Didier Deschamps, in his last stance, that I’m convinced will make them one of the better teams in the World Cup. But I do think from here up there is a difference between two and three.
You could tell me anything, and I would be all ears to be convinced that other teams deserve to be in there.
Portugal
Lots of young talent, a lot of quality in that midfield, especially Vitinha, Neves. Defensively as well, even though Rúben Dias this season hasn’t been great. You look at the likes of Nuno Mendes as well, and then you have Cristiano Ronaldo, who is in good form.
We’ll see what type of role he has come 2026. It is a diminishing role, but the fact that he would possibly be able to play in a sixth World Cup, that’s never happened before in the men’s game, is pretty incredible. Let’s see how Portugal under Roberto Martínez responds.
Germany
Their process through Julian Nagelsmann has already been put in motion, and despite them not having too many mega superstars, I think you could name 1 to 11, and they would all be pretty high level players, like reaching world class, if not already world class.
There are a couple of guys, A striker at Borussia Mönchengladbach who are unproven beyond the Bundesliga, I believe. But Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala a lot of young talent that maybe could be those next superstars that have that performance at a World Cup that can take Germany there.
